How much maintenance do Biotic Instruments plant systems require?
Very little. Every system includes automated sub-irrigation and integrated grow lighting, so there are no daily watering rounds. In most installations, staff simply refill the water reservoir every four to eight weeks; sensors and the Biotic OS app handle day-to-day care automatically.
Can plants thrive in offices with little or no natural light?
Yes. Our systems include integrated full-spectrum grow lights engineered for interior commercial spaces, so plantings stay healthy even in low-light offices, corridors, and windowless areas.
How does the automated irrigation work?
Plants sit in a sealed, drainless container over a wicking substrate that draws water up to the roots as needed (sub-irrigation). The XYLA Relay controller and PhytoSensor monitor conditions and water only when the plants need it, preventing both over- and under-watering, the two most common causes of plant failure.
Are the installations self-contained and drainless?
Yes. Every product is a closed system installed in a sealed, watertight planter with no drainage plumbing required. That makes them suitable for finished interiors, historic buildings, and raised floors where conventional planting isn't possible.
How long do the installations last, and do the plants get replaced?
They're designed for permanent installation, not seasonal replacement. Because automated care keeps conditions stable, plantings mature and fill in over time rather than declining. Our Chelsea Market Green Dividers thrived and densified over a full year of operation.
What products does Biotic Instruments make?

How much does a living wall or Green Divider cost?
Every installation is priced to the project: the space, the number of units, finishes, and whether it's a single Green Divider or a larger custom wall all factor in. Rather than a fixed list price, we scope each project and send back a preliminary configuration and quote. Request one through our contact page and we'll follow up.
Which plants work best in a living wall, especially in low light?
The right plants depend on the light a spot actually gets, so we measure it first. Hardy, low-light-tolerant species (snake plant, ZZ plant, pothos, peace lily, and many ferns) do well in interior conditions, and the Green Divider's integrated grow lights extend what's possible in darker spaces. We design each planting to the site rather than to a fixed list.
Do indoor plants need grow lights, and does the Green Divider include them?
In most interiors, yes: daylight alone rarely sustains a dense planting year-round. The Green Divider has full-spectrum grow lighting built in, on a programmable schedule, so plants stay healthy even in low-light offices, corridors, and windowless areas.
Can a living wall improve air quality and workplace wellbeing?
Biophilic installations are consistently linked to better focus, lower stress, and spaces people actually want to be in. That's the well-documented benefit, and it's what we build for: a thriving, permanent planting rather than a display that declines. We don't make specific air-purification claims; the reliable payoff is the human one.
What's the difference between a living wall, a moss wall, and an artificial green wall?
A living wall is real, growing plants that need light and water; our systems automate both so they thrive for years. Preserved moss walls and artificial green walls are static: no light, no water, no growth, which makes them lower-maintenance but not alive. Biotic Instruments builds living systems: real plants, engineered to last.
How large can a green wall be, and can it scale across floors or sites?
The systems are modular. A single Green Divider defines one space; group them for green corridors or larger walls, and PhytoMat tiles scale a planting from a window box to a 300 sq ft wall. Biotic OS manages devices across multiple units and sites from one app, so installations scale without adding manual upkeep.
