Assembling the Wooden Boxes

This is Step 1 of 4 of Green Divider assembly: the four planting boxes and the larger Base Box. Build the four planting boxes first, then the Base Box. Two people and a Phillips-head screwdriver are all it takes.

Before you start, lay out and count every piece on a clear, level surface. Stack the panels away from anything that can scratch them, work out the interior and exterior faces first, and keep the finished sides up.

Planting boxes

Step 01

Front Panels: install metal dowels

Screw (4) metal dowels into the threaded inserts on a Front Panel with the screwdriver. Don’t overtighten.

Repeat for all (8) Front Panels.

Step 02

Side Panels: press in camlocks

Press (4) camlocks fully into the holes of a Side Panel, with the small arrows on the camlocks pointing outward, toward the small hole on the edge of the panel.

Repeat for all (8) Side Panels.

Step 03

Join Side Panels to Front Panels

Slide (2) Side Panels onto the dowels sticking out of one Front Panel. Push them fully in, flush with the Front Panel.

Flip the three connected boards onto their side. There should be three small holes on the Front Panel edge facing up.

Attach a second Front Panel so its three small edge holes face the same direction. All six small holes should now face the same way.

Tighten all (8) camlocks until the boards pull together tightly.

Camlocks take a quarter turn to the right, until snug. They are easily damaged by overtightening.

Repeat to make (4) boxes.

Step 04

Bottom Panel

Insert (2) wooden dowels into the center holes on the Front Panels.

Align a Bottom Panel on the dowels, finish side up, and drive (4) wood screws into its screw holes.

Repeat for all (4) boxes.

Base Box

Step 01

Front and Rear Panels: install metal dowels

Lay out the Front Panel and screw (4) metal dowels into its threaded inserts. Set it aside.

Repeat with the Rear Panel, the one with two round holes. Don’t overtighten.

Step 02

Side Panels: press in camlocks

Press (4) camlocks into each of the (2) Side Panels, arrows pointing outward toward the small holes on the panel edges.

Step 03

Assemble the box

With the lip of every panel facing the same direction, slide both Side Panels onto the dowels of the Front Panel. Push them fully in and flush.

Attach the Rear Panel, again with all four lips facing the same way.

Flip the box so the lip faces up, then tighten all (8) camlocks a quarter turn right until snug.

Step 04

Bottom Panel

Set the Bottom Panel inside the lip. With the Rear Panel’s two round holes facing away from you, the rectangular hole in the Bottom Panel must be on the right.

Drive (6) wood screws into the screw holes, then flip the Base Box over and set it aside.

Keep the lid off until the end of Step 4.
